Mijn werk omvat vroege-fase therapieontwikkeling bij neurologische aandoeningen en impact op community-niveau — van patiëntenbelangenbehartiging en toegang tot zorg tot gelijke kansen in onderwijs en kwaliteit-van-leven-programma's. Ik hanteer bij beide dezelfde evidence-based aanpak.

Over Boaz Spermon
Boaz Spermon (Amsterdam) is geen wetenschapper en geen venture capitalist — hij ziet ontwikkelingen vroeg aankomen en handelt daarnaar. Overwinnen door inzicht, dat is zijn scherpte.
Spermon weet uit eigen ervaring wat het betekent als een veelbelovende behandeling niet tijdig beschikbaar is. Gediagnosticeerd met agressieve relapsing MS, zocht hij zelf een behandeling die in Nederland niet beschikbaar was, crowdfundde €100.000 in zeven dagen en onderging als eerste Nederlander een hematopoëtische stamceltransplantatie in Zweden. Daarna zette hij een petitie op die in 2022 leidde tot vergoeding van de behandeling voor een specifieke patiëntgroep. Die ervaring — van patiënt naar pleitbezorger naar institutionele versneller — vormt de kern van zijn werk.
Als Directeur van Start2Cure Foundation en Care for Quality of Life heeft hij een portfolio van vroege translationele neurotech-projecten opgezet, begeleid en gefinancierd — waaronder projecten met Erasmus MC, TU Delft, Stanford University, Hospital del Mar Barcelona, UZA Antwerp, het Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience en NeuroMove. Als Advisor to the Management Board bij Van Herk Groep (2019–2023) hielp hij de venture-philanthropische activiteiten opzetten en adviseerde hij specifiek op bio- en medtech investeringen in neurologische aandoeningen. Hij heeft de EUPATI Expert Training Course in Medicines Research & Development afgerond en modules van de Leergang Besturen van Filantropische (vermogens)Fondsen aan de VU Amsterdam gevolgd.
Daarnaast heeft Spermon meerdere stichtingen opgericht en bestuurd, en heeft hij beleidsplannen, governance-structuren en statuten — waaronder beleggingsstatuten — geschreven voor uiteenlopende maatschappelijke en filantropische initiatieven, van patiëntenbelangenbehartiging tot onderwijs en kwaliteit-van-leven-programma's. Telkens met oog voor de balans tussen missie, bestuurbaarheid en financiële soliditeit.

Spermon knows from personal experience what it means when a promising treatment isn't available in time. Diagnosed with aggressive relapsing MS, he sought a treatment unavailable in the Netherlands, crowdfunded €100,000 in seven days, and became the first Dutch person to undergo a hematopoietic stem cell transplant in Sweden. He then started a petition that led, in 2022, to reimbursement of the treatment for a specific patient group. That experience — from patient to advocate to institutional accelerator — is at the core of his work.
As Director of Start2Cure Foundation and Care for Quality of Life, he has built, guided, and funded a portfolio of early translational neurotech projects — including collaborations with Erasmus MC, TU Delft, Stanford University, Hospital del Mar Barcelona, UZA Antwerp, the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, and NeuroMove. As Advisor to the Management Board at Van Herk Groep (2019–2023), he helped establish its venture philanthropy activities and advised specifically on bio- and medtech investments in neurological disease. He completed the EUPATI Expert Training Course in Medicines Research & Development and modules of the VU Amsterdam course on governing philanthropic (endowed) funds.
Beyond this, Spermon has founded and governed multiple foundations, and has written policy plans, governance structures, and statutes — including investment statutes — for a range of social and philanthropic initiatives, from patient advocacy to education and quality-of-life programmes. Always balancing mission, governability, and financial soundness.
